Skyview Drags Mourns the Loss of 22-Year Old Racer Dan Cerio
Well known to the drag racing community, high performance snowmobile racer Dan Cerio died Saturday evening, May 5, 2012 as the result of a racing accident in Martin, MI. The Cerio family has a long history of professional sled racing and Dan had been drag racing and riding snowmobiles for most of his life. Cerio was graduated from Manlius High School in Fayetteville, NY in 2008. He was a school athlete who competed in both football and lacrosse. Cerio was graduated from Ohio Technical College in 2011 and was a current student of The Hot Rod Institute in Rapid City, SD.
Cerio was competing in the Aeroquip Outlaw Sled Series during a season opening race at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park when the accident occurred right at the end of his competition run. He was paired against Jeff Kerridge from Greenville, MI, who holds the record for the fastest asphalt sled race worldwide. Kerridge was trailing behind Cerio in the other lane when he saw “a large amount of white smoke coming from the other gentlemen’s sled.” Kerridge estimates Cerio spun at a 45-degree angle, moving off to the side, into Kerridge’s lane. “It happened in a moment—so fast, the memory almost seems to blur,” Kerridge said.

Those in the drag racing community don't need a lot of introduction to Scotty Richardson. The multi-time NHRA and IHRA World Champion is the only racer in the history of NHRA to win two National Championships in the same season (Super Comp and Super Gas in 1994). He also has doubled up at a National Event, winning Super Comp and Super Street in 1995 in Arizona. Scotty was also ranked in 2001 on NHRA's 50 Greatest Racers list, joining such names as Garlits, Muldowney, Prudhomme, and Force.
