Skyview Drags held the 2014 Northern Summers Nationals Over the 4th of July Weekend!

Two days of racing were in store for racers and spectators headed to Skyview Drags for the 4th of July Weekend.  Friday’s elimination rounds kicked of with Junior Dragster competition sending veteran racer Abby Hacker of Bainbridge NY to Victory Lane over Chandler McGarry of Horseheads NY.  Both Hacker and McGarry ran two hundredths off their dial, but Hacker dialed 7.92, took the win with a .601 reaction time running a 7.942 at 80.18 mph.  McGarry went .656 on the tree running 9.025 at 72.11 mph on a 9.00 flat dial.  Friday semi finals went to Hayden Houghtalen of Waverly NY after being defeated by the days Champ, Abby Hacker.

The final round of Super Pro brought even higher stakes to the table with drivers and spectators lined up to see if former Junior Dragster Champion Randi Teed of Friendsville Pa would be the first female racer to beat Franc Francis of Seneca Falls and take home the Bounty.  Teed and Francis lined up with only 2 tenths of second difference in dial.  But Teed ran a too quick 6.099 at 112.21 mph on her 6.11 dial, .587 reaction time.  Francis took the win going .535 on the tree, running 6.331 at 121.34 mph on a 6.31 dial.  Last week’s Super Pro winner Don Kiekel of Binghamton NY earned the semi final honors after a loss to Teed.

Pro Class competition lined Bruce Rowan against Shannon Fenton, sending Rowan on to Victory Lane.  Rowan dialed 6.64, went .551 on the tree, running dead on at 6.641, 102.04 mph.  Fenton gave chase going .643 on the tree, running 6.533 at 102.50 mph on his 6.51 dial.  Lee Mills and Manley Houghtalen were Friday’s Pro semi finalists.

Lynn Major of Tioga Center took the Bike/Sled win after running dead on his dial, defeating Dick Reome of Blodgett Mills NY in final round competition.  Reome had the better .525 reaction time, but broke out running 9.219 at 69.95 mph on a 9.22 dial.  Major dialed 5.07, went .532 on the tree, running 5.070 at 129.76 mph.  Semi finals went to the sleds of Ken Dolatowski of Syracuse NY and Boyd McGarry of Horseheads NY.

The Mod Trophy win went to Pro runner-up Shannon Fenton after a break-out pass by George Coleman of Barton NY.  Fenton dialed 6.51 went 6.6546 at 102.10 mph, .520 reaction time.  Coleman dialed 6.14, went .592 on the tree, running a too quick 6.107 at 108.44 mph.  Matt Luke of Cicero NY was the Mod Trophy semi finalists.

In Street Money, the automatic win went to John Coleman of Elmira NY when Mike Ryck of Waverly NY left before the third amber.  Matthew Bunal and John Zachary took the semi final honors.  

Tim Wright of Apalachin NY took the top spot in Street Trophy after defeating Mike Dunkle of Millerton Pa in the final round of competition.  Wright dialed 7.98, had the better .540 reaction time, running 8.068 at 79.92 mph.  Dunkle, dialed 9.70, went .687 on the tree, running dead on at 9.701, 72.45 mph, but the whole shot win went to Wright.  Mike Ryck earned the semi final finish.

Saturday July 5, 2014, lined up a fresh day of racing for all competitors, with all new winners going on to Victory Lane.  Paige Montgomery of Alden Pa made her way into Junior competition, earning a Skyview Drags win after defeating Morgan Burgess of Canton Pa in a double break-out elimination.  Montgomery dialed 8.20, went .589 on the tree, running 8.194 at 78.10 mph. Burgess gave chase going .674 on the tree, running 7.875 at 81.65 mph on a 7.90 dial.  Friday’s Junior winner, Abby Hacker of Bainbridge NY ended her weekend with a semi final finish.

The winning streak continued for Don Kiekel of Binghamton NY with a Super Pro win against Gene Stankivitz  of Chittenango NY.  Stankivitz dialed 5.11, broke out running 5.100 at 131.28 mph, .544 reaction time.  Kiekel, dialed 4.91, ran 4.924 at 139.71 mph, .534 reaction time.  Franc Francis of Seneca NY took home the semi final honors.

Paul Scribani of Delhi NY went to Victory Lane in the Pro Class after defeating Bryon Morningstar of Sheshequin Pa.  In a double break-out elimination, Scribani was on the winning end with a .554 reaction time, running 6.168 at 111.68 mph on a 6.17 dial.  Morningstar, dialed 6.73 went .519 on the tree, running 6.719 at 101.34 mph.  Mel Teed of Friendsville NY finished the 4th of July weekend as the semi finalists in Pro competition.

The Mod Trophy class lined door car against bike, with the Chevy Camaro driven by George Coleman of Barton NY taking the win over Matt Luke of Cicero NY.  Luke broke out running 5.756 at 121.58 mph on a 5.78 dial, .582 reaction time.  Coleman, also with a break-out, dialed 6.12 went .525 on the tree, running 6.118 at 112.72.  Mod Trophy semi finals went to Matt Savory and Jason Cable.

A fast all bike final round lined Friday’s winner Lynn Major of Tioga Center against Anthony Tamburino of Westernville Pa in the final round of Bike/Sled.  Tamburino was on the winning end of Saturday’s competition after a red light start by Major.  Major, dialed 5.01 ran dead on going 5.015 at 133.18, but a .483 red light gave Tamburino the automatic win.  Tamburino dialed 5.18, went .581 on the tree running 5.172 at 130.48 mph.  Chuck Vullo of Friendsville Pa and Matt Luke finished in the semi final spot.

The Street Money win went to Mike Dunkle of Millerton Pa after defeating challenger Dennis Achilles of Trumansburg Pa in the final round.  Dunkle dialed 9.78 went .511 on the tree running 9.820 at 70.19 mph.  Achilles gave chase to Dunkle dialed 8.18 going .735 on the tree running 8.206 at 81.68 mph.  Ed Arnold and John Coleman were the Street Money semi finalists.

Mike Dunkle doubled up with a win in the Street Trophy Class after defeating Mike Ryck of Waverly NY.  Dunkle went .550 on the tree running 9.837 at 69.95 mph on a 9.78 dial. Ryck, dialed 11.90 went .588 on the tree running 11.959 at 59.22 mph.  Alan Brucher Jr earned the semi final spot in Street Trophy competition.
